Professor of Africana Studies and Classics Shelley Haley recently attended the annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Atlantic States (CAAS) where she was a respondent to the performance of scenes from Sophocles’ Philoctetes, presented by Bryan Doerries, director of the Theater of War project.
Haley also presided over a paper session on “Augustan and Imperial Latin Literacy Turns,” and participated in a panel titled “Racism and Language in Classics Today,” organized by the Multiculturalism, Race, and Ethnicity in Classics Consortium. As a panelist, she presented a paper titled “‘It’s what he intended’: Translation, Authorial Intent and Racism in Classics.”
