Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate presented the AAR Award in Religion and the Arts to Pulitzer Prize-winning author and poet Gary Snyder at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) Nov. 18-22 in San Francisco. Snyder won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1975 and his work has been featured in national publications and in specials on BBC-TV and PBS.
During the AAR meeting Plate also organized and presided over sessions on “The Arts of the Book: Reading Images, Looking at Words” and “Artifacts of Crisis: Religion and the Material Culture of Cataclysm.”
