Routledge, a publisher of academic books, journals and online resources, named Professor of Communication Catherine Waite Phelan its “Author of the Month” for September. Her book, The Digital Evolution of an American Identity, is highlighted on the publisher’s website. An interview with Phelan is also featured.
In the interview, Phelan discussed her book and described it as an exploration of “why the concept of American individualism no longer means what it used to, from the courts to the street corner.” She said the book looks at how society is altered by digital technology and “how the 18th century Western Enlightenment compared to current global changes that arise as a result of a new communication environment.”
