The Departments of Music and Dance and Movement Studies will offer a full schedule of free performances in Wellin Hall during the College’s Family Weekend, Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30.
Under the direction of G. Roberts Kolb, the Hamilton College Choir and College Hill Singers will perform on Friday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m. The Choir and College Hill Singers will present a selection of music for choral ensemble and spirituals including “Over the Rainbow.”
The second part of the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon performances is dedicated to the Department of Dance and Movement Studies. Hamilton College professors Elaine Heekin and Bruce Walczyk will present original works performed by Hamilton students. Leslie Norton will present a reworking of The Firebird with music by Igor Stravinsky danced by Hamilton students and guest artist Paris Wilcox.
On Saturday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m., the Hamilton College Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble take to the stage. Conducted by Heather Buchman, the orchestra will present the premier of Boogie-isms, written for the Hamilton College Orchestra by Hamilton’s own “Doc” Woods. Also on the Orchestra portion of the program is Schubert’s Symphony No. 9. In the second half of the Saturday evening performance, the Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble will perform under the direction of Mike “Doc” Woods. The Jazz Ensemble will play standards as well as new compositions from Woods and members of the Jazz Combo.
