Undertaking a time-honored tradition in French bibliography known as the état présent, Professor of French John C. O'Neal reviewed the past 15 years of Rousseau scholarship at the invitation of the editors of French Studies, published by Oxford University Press.
Hearing of this study, the Société Française d'Étude du Dix-Huitième Siècle asked O'Neal if it would be possible to use a French translation of his piece for its journal, Dix-Huitième Siècle. Oxford UP gave its permission to do so. The English version appeared in French Studies 68, 2 (April 2014), and the French version is scheduled to come out at a slightly later date this summer.
