
Nancy Thompson, who has been serving as acting dean of students at Hamilton since July 2004, has been appointed to the permanent position of dean of students, effective immediately.
In making the announcement, Hamilton President Joan Hinde Stewart said, "As acting dean of students, Nancy has demonstrated exceptional leadership. I am particularly appreciative of her ability to engage all college constituencies in developing a campus climate that supports Hamilton's educational mission and enhances the lives of our students," Stewart said.
Thompson previously served as acting dean of students at Hamilton in fall 1996 and from July 1999-July 2000. As dean of students she oversees the Division of Student Life, which includes multicultural affairs, career services, campus safety, chaplains, counseling and psychological services, study abroad, residential life, student activities, student health services and the outdoor adventure program.
Since joining the College as assistant dean of students in 1986, Thompson has served in a variety of capacities in the Dean of Students Office. She was appointed dean of student life in 1988 and associate dean of students in 1990.
Thompson earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from SUNY Geneseo and a master of education in student personnel administration from Springfield College. She also earned a master's degree in education from St. Bonaventure University.
