Hamilton College's Ian Hildebrand '07 scored two goals to lead the Continentals to a 3-0 win against Union College in a Liberty League Tournament semifinal game at St. Lawrence University's Sandy MacAllaster Field on Nov. 5.
Hamilton, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will play nationally ranked and top-seeded St. Lawrence in Saturday's league title game at noon. The Saints also shut out Rensselaer 3-0 in Friday's first semifinal. The Continentals (11-3-1 overall) played St. Lawrence in the 2002 league championship game. Hamilton is 5-1-1 in its last seven games. The one loss was to the Saints, 2-1, at Love Field on Oct. 22.
The Continentals scored twice in the first 14:33 and led 2-0 at the half. Hildebrand scored his first goal in the eighth minute on an assist from John Porges '07. Greg Rogan '07 notched his eighth goal of the year on an assist from Zach Kelly '07 in the 15th minute. Rogan, who has four assists, leads Hamilton with 20 points. Hildebrand clinched the victory just 2:29 into the second half with his team-high ninth goal of the year. Chris Breedlove '08 picked up the assist.
Anthony Tripicchio '06 needed to make just one save to pick up his seventh shutout this year. He has a .59 goals against average. Union (10-7-1) actually held an 8-7 edge in shots.
