The Hamilton College rowing teams raced against St. Lawrence University on Saturday on Rome’s Erie Canal.
The Continentals and Saints competed on a 2,000-meter course facing a headwind that increased throughout the day. The Hamilton varsity 8 boats swept their races, winning the Newell and Houlihan Cups.
On the men’s side, the varsity 8 defeated St. Lawrence 6:40.15 to 6:53.22. The varsity 4 was won by the Saints in 8:45.81 ahead of the Continentals’ time of 8:59.65.
Hamilton’s second varsity 8 finished second in a three-boat race, finishing in 7:11.21, which put it between St. Lawrence’s novice 8 (6:59.25) and the Saints’ second varsity 8 (7:20.19).
The novice 4 race was shortened to 1,500 meters because of declining water conditions. Hamilton won in 6:32.91 ahead of St. Lawrence (7:07.05).
The Continentals are back in action on Saturday, April 25, racing at Cayuga Inlet against Colgate University, Marist College and host Ithaca College.
