Justin Williams '10 scored three goals, but Hamilton College lost 12-6 against visiting Skidmore College in a Liberty League game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on March 31.
This contest marked the league opener for both teams. Hamilton (2-5 overall) has dropped three straight, but still leads the all-time series against the Thoroughbreds with 20 wins and just six losses. Skidmore (2-5) won its second in a row after opening the year with five consecutive losses.
Williams leads the Continentals with 11 goals. Clark Winter '07 chipped in two goals and two assists. Winter is first on the team with 10 assists. Mike Daley '07 added one goal and one assist. Ned Gilliss '08, Travis Modic '07 and Blake Hollinger '09 picked up three ground balls each. Billy Haas '10 won 7 of 11 faceoffs.
Winter and Daley notched their eighth goals of the year in the first quarter as Hamilton trailed 3-2 after 15 minutes. The Continentals didn't score again until Williams converted an extra-man opportunity with 19 seconds left in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Thoroughbreds bridged the second and third quarters with six straight goals. Skidmore added one more goal with six seconds remaining in the third for a commanding 10-3 lead.
The Thoroughbreds held a 32-21 advantage in shots and picked up 36 ground balls to Hamilton's 31. Both teams won 11 faceoffs. Skidmore was 5-for-9 on extra-man opportunities.
The Continentals host SUNY Oneonta for a non-league game on Tuesday, April 3, at 5 p.m.
