Amherst College's Dave Cunningham '16 made 31 saves and the Lord Jeffs defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 3-1 in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Nov. 15.

Box Score

The game was the season opener for both teams. Amherst is 12-0-1 in its last 13 games against the Continentals. Hamilton still leads the all-time series, 57-24-3.

David White '18 led the Jeffs' offense with one goal and one assist. Jake Turrin '15 and Xavier Louis Reed '16 added the other goals.

Kenny Matheson '16 scored a power-play goal for the Continentals -- the 11th goal of his Hamilton career. Robbie Murden '17 and Conor Lamberti '17 were credited with the assists. Zach Arnold '15 stopped 26 shots in 58-plus minutes in goal.

Arnold and Cunningham matched each other save-for-save for much of the first two periods. Amherst finally broke through with 2:36 left in the second on White's goal from close range. Topher Flanagan '16 and Keenan Hodgson '18 picked up the assists.

Turrin made it 2-0 at 3:20 of the third period when he scored off a one-timer from the slot on a pass from the left faceoff circle by Thomas Lindstrom '18. Reed gave the Jeffs a three-goal advantage at 10:26 of the third. His wrist shot from the blue line above the right circle skimmed across the ice and between Arnold's pads.

Matheson's goal came 46 seconds into an Amherst interference penalty. He beat Cunningham on a quick shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle with 3:22 to go. The Continentals pulled Arnold for the extra skater for most of the final two minutes but didn't score again.

Hamilton plays another NESCAC game at Wesleyan University on Friday, Nov. 21. Amherst takes on nationally ranked No. 10 Trinity College on the road in conference action on Friday.
