Scott Hefferman '11 made 33 saves to help lead Hamilton College to a 2-0 win against SUNY Potsdam in the consolation game of the Babson College Invitational Tournament presented by Irving Oil at the Babson Skating Center on Nov. 25.
Head coach Phil Grady recorded the 300th victory of his coaching career – all with Hamilton (1-2-1 overall). He is the 17th coach in Division III history to reach the milestone.
Hefferman was making his collegiate debut. He stopped all 17 shots he faced in the third period to preserve the Continentals' first shutout since Jan. 22, 2005.
Andrew Decristoforo '08 and Jerome Wallace '10 posted one goal and one assist apiece. Decristoforo was selected to the all-tournament team. Wallace leads the team with three goals and four points. Jake Davis '09 was credited with two assists.
Wallace gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead as he scored off a rebound of Decristoforo's shot at 13:33 of the first period. After a scoreless second period, Decristoforo provided some insurance with his first goal this season at 4:19 of the third. He took a pass from Davis on the left side and wristed a shot into the upper right corner.
The Continentals held a 46-33 advantage in shots, including a 12-3 cushion in the first period. Hamilton was 0-for-5 on the power play and Potsdam (4-4-3) went 0-for-4. The Continentals have allowed one power play goal in four games. Hamilton's last appearance in a regular season tournament came during the 2001-02 season at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Hamilton travels to Norwich University for a NESCAC/ECAC East crossover on Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.
