Kyle Dumas '09 scored a career-high 22 points to help lead Hamilton College to a 78-74 non-league win against visiting Emmanuel College at Scott Field House on Nov. 20.
Dumas made 9 of 14 shots from the field, including 4 of 7 from three-point range. He also grabbed four rebounds and handed out three assists. His previous career best was 13 points last season against Union College.
Ramunas Rozgys '09 came off the bench to knock down half of his 12 field goal attempts and scored 15 points. Jon Ciriello '11 added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. Jay Simpson '10 dished out a game-high six assists. Joe Manns '10 was credited with three steals.
Hamilton (3-0 overall) trailed 20-19 midway through the first half when Dumas nailed consecutive three-pointers for a 25-20 lead with 9:08 left before the break. Emmanuel (0-3) never held the advantage again. The Continentals led 41-35 at the half.
Hamilton pushed its lead to 11 points early in the second half and a three by Tim Shaw '10 put the Continentals up, 69-60, with 7:18 remaining. The Saints clawed back with an 11-2 run that tied the score at 71-71 with 2:28 left. Hamilton's Max Shillalies '11 made two free throws and a jumper on consecutive possessions to restore the Continentals' four-point lead.
Emmanuel still trailed by just two points with less than 20 seconds remaining, but missed two shots to tie the score in the closing seconds. Simpson made two free throws with 0.3 seconds left for the final margin.
Hamilton shot 50 percent (31-62) from the field and made 7 of 14 shots from long range. However, the Continentals turned the ball over 20 times and the Saints stayed in the game by making 77 percent of their 22 free throw attempts.
Hamilton travels to Utica College for a non-league game on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m.
