Associate Professor of History John Eldevik recently presented a paper in London at a workshop hosted by the German Historical Institute (GHI).
The GHI’s biennial Medieval History Seminar brings together scholars from North America, the United Kingdom, and Germany to share and discuss current research relating to medieval Germany.
Eldevik’s presentation focused on a series of German accounts of violence and atrocities allegedly committed by Muslims against Christian crusaders during the Second Crusade (1146-48). He speculated about possible connections between these accounts and the rise of accusations around the same time against Jews for the ritual murder of Christians.
