Jack Martinez-Arias

Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Jack Martínez-Arias was invited to the Lima International Book Fair to launch his third novel, Te he seguido (Dendro 2024). In line with Martínez-Arias's research on migration patterns and the barriers migrants face in Latin America, this novel tells the story of two adolescents who migrate to the outskirts of Lima and confront urban violence, poverty, and discrimination.

Commenting on the work, writer Marco Avilés noted that Martínez-Arias' novel exposes facets of the city that the state and elites prefer to keep invisible. Gustavo Rodríguez, winner of the Alfaguara Prize, described the novel as a fresco of contemporary society. Literary critic Rubén Quiroz said that Martínez-Arias is "a great promise in contemporary Peruvian narrative."
