The Save Seafood Tour, a partnership between Bon Appétit Management Company and the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch Program, is coming to Hamilton College for a presentation on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m., in Beinecke Annex B. The purpose of the tour is to provide information about the endangered state of our oceans, the impact of over-fishing on the global environment, and to teach consumers about sustainable seafood choices. It is free and open to the public.

"We've found that consumers are eager to learn more but don't know where to turn for information," said Maisie Ganzler from the Bon Appétit Management Company and one of the speakers. "Everyone wants to protect the environment and eat healthy food. We try to bring those concerns together in one evening." The presentation will feature a 30-minute film, Can the Oceans Keep up with the Hunt?, as well as a talk by Jennifer Dianto, senior program manager for Seafood Watch, a division of the Center for the Future of the Oceans at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Along with presenters from Bon Appétit and Monterey Bay Aquarium, Dr. Patrick Reynolds, Professor of Biology from Hamilton College, will talk about recent research on several model cases of food-harvesting marine habitat degradation—"it is the biome furthest removed from our firsthand experience, so the environmental issues associated with it are the hardest to grasp." Following a question and answer period, Bon Appétit will provide a dessert reception prepared with local, sustainable food products.

Bon Appétit Management Company has used the Seafood Watch science-based standards to change its company-wide purchasing practices and to educate its workforce about sustainable seafood since 2002. "As a company, we are committed to socially responsible purchasing practices, and giving guests the information necessary to make informed food choices. Bringing the Save Seafood Tour to Hamilton College is consistent with Bon Appétit's mission to protect future supplies of healthy food" said Ms. Ganzler. The event is sponsored by Hamilton Environmental Action Group and Bon Appétit Management Company. No advance registration is required.
