Instead of heading to the local card store or sending an e-greeting through cyberspace, some Hamilton students crafted hand-printed Valentine’s Day cards in the College’s Letterpress Studio.
Under the direction of Seth Gottlieb, Special Collections education and outreach librarian, 56 students took turns on Feb. 11 applying handset metal type to create images using the vintage Alexander Hamilton Press. In the process they learned about letterpress printing, and each left with a set of Valentine’s cards.
The Letterpress Studio is funded by Michael Lang ’67, who founded the press in 1964 and has generously supported its continued programming.
