Monk Rowe

Monk Rowe, the Joe Williams Director of the Jazz Archive and lecturer in music performance (saxophone), recently announced the completion of Season 4 of the Jazz Backstory podcast.

“Duke Ellington,” the first of eight episodes for the new season, launched last week. Additional new episodes will be introduced on Mondays, at 12:01 a.m., through Oct. 1.

Jazz Backstory podcasts feature interview excerpts pulled from the expansive collection that comprises the Fillius Jazz Archive, established in 1995. Focusing mainly on jazz and swing, the archive includes oral history interviews with well-known artists, as well as band members and others, including arrangers, writers, and critics.

The new podcast releases, along with episodes from Jazz Backstory’s first three seasons, can be found on the Fillius Jazz Archive webpage.

Rowe credits Digital Scholarship Technologist Doug Higgins and Michael Ko ’25 for their “invaluable work” on Season 4 of Jazz Backstory.
