Several members of the LITS Research and Instructional Design team were recently selected to teach a workshop at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Chicago.

Associate Director for Digital Learning and Research Nhora Serrano, Instructional Designer, Digital Media, and 3D Technology Specialist Ben Salzman, and Instructional Designers Doug Higgins and Sacharja Cunningham ’19 presented “Down the Rabbit Holes: Teaching & Learning Extended Reality Technologies.”

The workshop focused on how extended reality (XR) technologies and instructional design methods were used to enhance teaching and learning in a literature course.

Components of Serrano’s Dream a Little Dream: Virtual Realities & Literature course were used to demonstrate pedagogical and technical aspects of XR technologies.

Via this sample course, workshop participants had a hands-on introduction to Unity and tried several XR experiences. They also participated in discussions about best practices of using XR technologies in higher education.
