Dance instructor Roberto Luis Perez from Syracuse leads the Hispanic Studies majors in a dance.

Hispanic Studies seniors kicked off the semester dancing salsa, merengue, and cha cha cha in a special event on Jan. 24. Every spring term, the Hispanic Studies department organizes the event in order to congratulate them as they head toward graduation.

Twenty seniors came to the dinner and celebrated with their professors. After  dinner they each received a gift, and shared their memories of becoming a Hispanic Studies major. Most of the students said they became a major after they studied abroad. “Madrid did it!!” was a common refrain. But others commented that it was either one class or one professor that inspired them. Another student put it this way: “It was the moment I finished my oral presentation in Hispanic Studies 200. I was terrified and yet, at then end I thought: I can really speak Spanish.”
