Professor of Dance Elaine Heekin published “Movement Classes for Mature Adults: A Creative Approach” in Activity Director Today magazine. According to Heekin, “the article addresses various movement experiences that offer a refreshing approach as opposed to a generic workout.”
Heekin’s ongoing research is in dance as it relates to health and wellness. She has worked with senior citizens for more than a decade, focusing on the effects of Pilates and Bartenieff Fundamentals (body therapy) on mobility. She said her “background as a dancer/choreographer provides the tools to create movement classes that have component-filled, creative, stimulating and helpful exercises for the both body and mind.”
