The HAVOC Executive Board.
The HAVOC Executive Board.
About 150 students, faculty, staff members and alumni visited KJ Commons on April 4 to celebrate HAVOC's 20th anniversary. The Hamilton Association for Volunteering Outreach and Charity has more than 20 weekly projects at sites off and on the Hill that let students make a difference in the community. As a part of the largest student-led organization at Hamilton, HAVOC volunteers make new friends, build leadership skills, and make a difference in people's lives.

Speakers were HAVOC Executive Board events coordinator Mary Phillips '11, Director of Outreach and Orientation Amy James, College Chaplain Jeff McArn, and Dean of Students Nancy Thompson.

Also attending were community partners Roberta Schiavi and Carol Grove from Your Neighbors, Inc.; Cassandra Harris-Lockwood from For the Good; Reverend Ursula Meier and colleagues, as well as her "Youth Voices" group from Johnson Park Center; Ellen Jamison from Utica Safe Schools/Underground Café; Toni Covey from Lincoln Academy; and Diane DiMeo from Catholic Charities.

Displays at the event included a history of HAVOC featuring old HAVOC newsletters, event invitations, thank you notes, and a report by the first director of HAVOC, a slideshow of recent HAVOC event pictures, quotes from HAVOC Executive Board members on why they serve, and posters with pictures and information about all of HAVOC's sites.
