A recent article published in Rolling Stone Magazine highlighted the efforts of  Hamitlon undergraduate Young Han '06 to register to vote with the Oneida County Board of Elections. According to the article, "Election officials all over the country are erecting illegal barriers to keep young voters from casting ballots."

According to Han, he has attempted to register three times, but the board of elections has responded that he should register to vote in his home county in Washington State. Han contends that since he spends more time in New York than Washington, he should be allowed to vote here. The board of elections argues that a student living in a college dormitory is not a permanent resident and therefore is ineligible to vote in Oneida County.

"It seems ridiculous that someone would have to go through all this just to register and take part in the political process," Han says. "Everyone talks about how young people don't get involved -- but maybe it's because they make it this difficult."
