The Contemporary Voices and Visions series at Hamilton College continues the spring series with a Mohawk Valley Dance Partnership presentation of Flamenco Vivo/Carlota Santana on Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Wellin Hall.  There will be a free pre-concert flamenco demonstration at 6:30 p.m. in room 106 of the List Art Center.

With elegant and athletic dancers accompanied live on stage by four highly skilled musicians, the program titled Fiesta Flamenco celebrates the fiery passion of Spain's time-honored traditional dance. Through its purity of form, rhythms, and intensity, flamenco strikes primal cords in the emotions of audiences of all ages and cultures.

Traditional flamenco performances include light and joyful alegrias, passionate tangos and romantically tragic soleres. Designated "The Keeper of Flamenco" by Dance Magazine, artistic director Carlota Santana has dedicated the Flamenco Vivo dance company to the mission of building bridges between cultures by creating new works and encouraging young dancers through the universal spirit of flamenco.

Now in its 13th year, the Mohawk Valley Dance Partnership (MVDP) was established in 1995 to broaden dance activity in Central New York. MVDP combines the talents and resources of three community partners: Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Hamilton College, and the Stanley Center for the Arts, Arts in Education Institute. The partnership's goals are to bring dance artists into the area for multi-day visits with activity closely planned between the dance company and the community; to advance a broad spectrum of the community's understanding and appreciation of dance through a wide range of residency activity and performances; to encourage close and perhaps sustaining ties between the community and the dance company; and to create long-lasting community partnerships through development of joint dance projects that capitalize on each organization's strengths, together achieving more than individually possible.

This event is made possible, in part, by the New York State DanceForce, a state-wide consortium of choreographers, arts organizations, presenters and educators. Administered by the American Dance Asylum, Inc., DanceForce programs include artist residencies, community outreach activities and other dance programming that link artists and communities across New York State. The New York State DanceForce receives major sponsorship from the New York State Council on the Arts Dance Program, Altria Group Inc., and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and Munson-Williams-Proctor members, and $5 for students. For tickets or more information, call the Hamilton College box office at 859-4331. Tickets are also available online at www.hamiltonpa.org.
