Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics, participated in an American Public Media Marketplace segment titled “Some economists think technology might be slowing inflation” on June 21.
Leading the group of experts interviewed for the broadcast, Owen discussed how technology might be a factor in “blowing up the inflation model,” as the host described the current environment.
Owen pointed to the growing dominance of online retailers as a factor in keeping retail prices down and automation as an alternative strategy for employers rather than increasing pay levels.
Other experts included another former Federal Reserve economist and an economist from the American Enterprise Institute.
