Andrew Dykstra, assistant professor of mathematics, gave a colloquium talk at Northwestern University on March 15. Dykstra's talk described recent work with his Hamilton colleague Michelle LeMasurier and Ethan Coven from Wesleyan University. Their results characterize arbitrary substitution minimal sets up to topological conjugacy, and completely generalize what was previously known for specific examples (e.g., the Morse and Toeplitz minimal sets).
