In an email to the Hamilton community on Oct. 21, President David Wippman announced the death of 14-year Facilities Management employee David Smith.
Dear Members of the Hamilton Community,
The flags in front of Siuda House and at Facilities Management are flying at half-staff to honor the memory and service of David Smith, master maintenance mechanic, who died Tuesday.
Dave started work at Hamilton in 2007 as a preventative maintenance mechanic. He worked up to a level one mechanic and, after returning to school to further his education, was promoted to master maintenance mechanic. He loved the outdoors, especially riding his Harley in the summer and his snowmobile in the winter, and he had a close and special relationship with his grandchildren. Dave was also active in his community, serving for many years as assistant chief of the Floyd Fire Department. His co-workers considered him to be a true friend and are deeply saddened by his death, as are we all. On behalf of the College community, I extend our collective sympathies to Dave’s family and friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Barry Funeral Home in Rome. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a short service to follow.
