The Days-Massolo Center is hosting several events to commemorate Black History Month in February including a film series and a performance. All events are free and open to the public.
The documentary Brother Outsider: Life of Bayard Rustin, will be screened on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 4:15 p.m., at the Center on College Hill Road. Bayard Rustin is best-remembered as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. During his 60-year career as an organizer, he formulated many of the strategies that propelled the American civil rights movement.
Good Hair, a comedy documentary by Chris Rock will be screened on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 4:15 p.m., in the Days-Massolo Center, College Hill Road. Chris Rock’s investigation into African American women’s attitudes toward their hair began when his daughter Lola asked him why she didn’t “have good hair.”
Deep Roots: A Panel Discussion on Hair with Dr. Noliwe Rooks, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m, in the Red Pit, KJ. Rooks is associate director of the Center for African American Studies at Princeton and author of Hair Raising: Beauty, Culture and African American Women (1996).
Preserving Culture Through Dance and Music, a workshop with Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Experimental Dance Ensemble, will take place on Friday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m., in Wellin Hall.
