Allegheny College’s Steven Ramsdell tossed a six-inning no-hitter and the Gators swept Hamilton College in a non-conference doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla., on March 22.

Allegheny (6-4 overall) won 11-0 in a nightcap that was stopped due to rain after Hamilton batted in the top of the sixth. The Gators used a four-run seventh inning to win the first game, 7-3.

Ramsdell was dominant in Game 2 as he struck out six batters. Ben Kirchler, Matt Sardini and Matt Pezzone all finished with two hits. Pezzone had a double and a triple, scored two runs and drove in one. Adam Bronson had two runs batted in.

Allegheny scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead through three. With one out, Pezzone doubled down the left field line and came around to score on Zach Sutton’s ground-rule double. A single through the left side by Bronson plated Sutton for a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Zach Gray and James Kim walked to put runners on first and second. Gray stole third base and trotted home after the throw sailed into left field, and Kim scooted to second. Pezzone then tripled to the gap in right center and drove in Kim.

The Gators put the game away with a seven-run fifth inning. Kim led off with a double and scored on an error that put Pezzone at second base. Sutton was hit by a pitch and walks to Eric Weyant and Bronson scored Pezzone. Allegheny scored four more runs after back-to-back errors and plated the final run on Gray’s single up the middle.

In Game 1, Allegheny broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the top of the seventh. Eric Brandt threw a complete game, allowing three runs and striking out five. Joe Killian had two singles, including the go-ahead, two-run hit. Kim and Frank Triozzi finished with one hit and one RBI apiece.

Alex Pachella '15 allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out seven in five strong innings, and left with a no-decision. Nick Taylor '15, Tyler Reinhold '15 and Tim Burke '16 all collected two hits. Taylor picked up two RBI and Burke had the other.

Allegheny came out swinging in the first inning as the Gators jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Kirchler led off with a bunt single, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Gray drew a walk and put runners on the corners, and Kim drove in Kirchler with the first run. Gray and Kim moved up on a wild pitch, and Gray scored on a passed ball third strike.

The Continentals got one run back in the second inning. After Steve LaRochelle '14 walked and Taylor hit a single, Reinhold moved the runners up to second and third with his sacrifice bunt. On the next play, Burke hit an infield single that plated LaRochelle to make it 2-1.

Hamilton scored two more runs in their half of the third and went up 3-2. With one out, Ben Goffin '15 singled and Joe Jensen '15 doubled for runners at second and third. Following a strikeout, Taylor roped a two-out, two-run single up the middle. Reinhold singled on a hit-and-run and stole second, and the Continentals were threatening again with runners at second and third. However, Brandt coaxed a ground out to third to end the inning.

Pezzone tied the score for Allegheny in the fifth when he led off with a triple and scored on Triozzi’s ground out. The Gators put two runners aboard with two outs in the sixth, but reliever Mike Williams '16 got out of his own jam as Pezzone ended the inning with a fly out.

The Continentals loaded the bases in the sixth after a double by Becker and walks to Gabe Klein ’13 and Jensen. But with two outs Brandt induced a groundout to second, and the inning ended in a 3-3 tie.

Williams went back out for the seventh inning, but three walks loaded the bases for the Gators with two outs. Tommy Moriarty '14 replaced Williams and had a full count on Killian, but Killian laced the next pitch back up the middle for a two-run single and a 5-3 lead. With Killian on second and Kim on third, Mike Kastelic reached on an error and both runners came around to score. Moriarty struck out the next batter and Hamilton was still within striking distance.

Brandt came out for the final inning and allowed singles to Reinhold and Burke with one out. But Sam Fuentes '13 flew out and Becker grounded out, and the Gators held on.

The Continentals play two non-conference games against Carroll University on Sunday, March 24.
