The Hamilton College Continentals lost for the first time this season 10-1 to the Framingham State University Rams in a non-conference game played in Auburndale, Fla., on Wednesday morning.

The Continentals (2-1 overall) were held to six hits just one day after they routed Framingham State, 10-3. Hamilton scored in the top of the first before the Rams (4-2) responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning on their way to the win.

Chris Collins ’17 reached on a one-out single and used aggressive base-running and a Framingham State error to score. Kevin Collins ’17 followed his brother’s single with a grounder to short. Kevin was thrown out at first but Chris took third on the throw to first and came home when the throw to third was misplayed. Two more Continentals reached base in the inning – Brett Mele ’17 singled and Zack Becker ’16 walked – but the Rams held Hamilton scoreless over the final 6.1 innings.

Jackson Kushner ’17 led off the seventh with a pinch-hit double and Jared Friedberg ’16 followed with a pinch-hit single that put runners at first and third. The Rams squelched Hamilton's brief rally after they turned a line drive up the middle into a double play and retired the next hitter to end the game.

Mark Mainini ’15 led Framingham State with a pair of two-run singles. RJ Gray ’15 and Matthew Roberge ’14 had two hits apiece as the Rams finished with 10.

Matthew DiCato ’14 struck out six Continentals while allowing four hits over six innings to earn the win. Hamilton’s Cole Dreyfuss ’16 and Joe Wagner ’14 pitched three innings apiece. Wagner struck out three batters.

Hamilton takes on Alfred State College in a non-conference doubleheader that gets underway at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.
