Dean Lambert and Andrew David threw complete game three-hitters for Tufts University and the Jumbos swept a non-conference doubleheader against Hamilton College at Tufts' Huskins Field on April 7.

The Jumbos (13-7 overall) shut out Hamilton 6-0 in Game 1 and ran their win streak to five games with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap. The four-game weekend series was believed to be the first meeting between Tufts -- a member of the NESCAC East Division for baseball -- and the Continentals from the NESCAC West Division.

In the first game, Tufts scored three runs in the second inning and three more in the third. Lambert (1-0) allowed only three hits and two walks and struck out six in seven innings. Nick Cutsumpas went 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored two runs. Nate Izzo finished with a hit, two runs and three stolen bases.

Colin Henneberger '14 led the Continentals with two singles. Mike Williams '16 (0-3) and Tommy Moriarty '14 gave up only two hits apiece, but combined to hit five batters. Willams lasted 2.1 innings and issued four walks before he was relieved by Moriarty, who pitched 3.2 innings in his 14th appearance this season.

In the second inning, Izzo and James Howard walked and Izzo stole second and third. Matthew Barry came to the plate with runners on the corners and his fielder’s choice plated Izzo for the game’s first run. Cutsumpas singled through the left side, Barry advanced to third on an error and Cutsumpas stole second. A fielder’s choice by Joe Harrington forced Barry out at the plate, and a walk to Scott Staniewicz loaded the bases. Connor McDavitt and Wade Hauser were hit by pitches in back-to-back at-bats and forced in two more runs.

The Jumbos added three more runs in the third. After a single by Izzo and a Howard walk, Barry’s sacrifice bunt moved them to second and third. Cutsumpas’ single through the right side drove in both runners for a 5-0 lead. Cutsumpas then stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on Staniewicz’s single.

In the nightcap, Tufts erased an early 1-0 deficit with six runs in the second inning. David (2-2) yielded one run on three hits and struck out seven in seven innings. Staniewicz was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Nick Barker and McDavitt collected one hit and two RBI apiece. Eric Weikert recorded two hits.

Gabe Klein '13 posted two hits and an RBI for Hamilton. Henneberger finished with a hit and scored the run. Cole Dreyfuss '16 (3-1) allowed five earned runs and scattered 10 hits in six innings.

The Continentals (7-13) struck first on an RBI single by Klein in the top of the first inning before the Jumbos' outburst in the second. Consecutive singles by Izzo, Weikert and Matthew Luci loaded the bases with no outs. Barker drove in two runs with a single up the middle and moved up to second base on the throw. A single up the middle by McDavitt plated two more runs, Staniewicz singled, and an error on Howard’s hit allowed McDavitt and Staniewicz to score for a 6-1 advantage.
