Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics, recently presented a lecture on “Women in Economics and STEM: Why are they underrepresented and does it matter?” at William & Mary.
Drawing on her involvement with the American Economics Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession, along with pedagogical and institutional research, Owen discussed reasons for the underrepresentation of women in economics and STEM fields and the impact of these disproportionate numbers. She also provided strategies to encourage women and promote opportunities for them in male-dominated fields.
