Abhishek Amar, assistant professor of religious studies, published a chapter titled "The Buddhaksetra of Bodhgaya: Sangha, Exchanges and Trade-Networks," in the volume titled Religions and Trade: Religious Formation, Transformation and Cross-Cultural Exchange between East and West, Leiden: Brill, 2013.
This volume investigates the ways in which eastern and western religions were formed and transformed from the perspective of "trade." Amar's chapter specifically examines the interaction between the Buddhist monastic institutions and trade and exchange networks, which shaped the formation of sacred landscape of Bodhgaya in the early historic South Asia.
