Hamilton College Performing Arts presents the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.
Drawn from the principal players of the full orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble was created in 1967 to perform the larger chamber works with players who customarily work together instead of the usual string quartet with additional guests. The Chamber Ensemble tours as a string octet, string sextet and in other configurations to include winds. Its touring commitments are extensive, with regular visits to France, Germany and Spain and frequent tours to North and South America, Australia and New Zealand.
The Hamilton College program includes Dvorák’s String Quintet in G major, Op.77 and Schubert’s Octet in F major for Winds & Strings, D. 803.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $5 for students. All seating is general admission. For tickets or more information, call the box office at 859-4331 or visit www.hamiltonpa.org.
