Twenty-one members of Hamilton's class of 2008 were elected today to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest honor society. They join 25 classmates who were elected earlier this year.

Rising Hamilton senior Eric Kuhn has been named a member of the UWIRE 100, a select group of undergraduate and graduate students judged the top collegiate journalists in the country. Chosen from a pool of more than 500 nominations submitted by students and educators at 132 schools, the winners hail from 66 colleges and universities.

Local Integrity Systems: World Cities Fighting Corruption, a book edited by Maynard-Knox Professor of Government and Law Frank Anechiarico '71 with Leo Huberts and Frederique Six of the Free University of Amsterdam, was published in May by BJU Publishers of The Hague, Netherlands.

Assistant Professor of Japanese Kyoko Omori gave a lecture in Japanese at Waseda University in Tokyo on May 19. The talk was titled "Japanese Radio Shows from the Occupation Period." It focused on a variety of strategies that the GHQ/SCAP took in the wake of WWII, in order to rebuild the Japanese radio broadcasting system for promoting democracy. Omori's talk was part of the "Open College" lecture series at Waseda University titled "Popular Culture During the Occupation Period (1945-1952)."

Alumni responded, and the May goal of making 800 new gifts or fulfilled pledges was met. Doing so generated a total of $125,000 in additional gifts from nine trustees. The third phase of the Alumni Participation Challenge, which concludes on June 15, will prompt the trustee challengers to contribute another $125,000 which will further magnify the impact of your gift. 

According to Crain's Cleveland Business, Joshua Bruff, a 2005 graduate, was recently  promoted to a manager position of the Developers Diverisfied Reality Corp.

The Committee for Kirkland College hosted a brunch on-campus on Sunday, April 6, to help the Womyn's Center kick off Womyn's Energy Week.

Marianne Janack, the Sidney Wertimer Associate Professor of Philosophy, was the keynote speaker at the Bay Area Feminist Philosophy Seminar held at Mills College in Oakland.  She was invited by Libby Potter, a former Hamilton faculty member.

Hamilton College is conducting its first "Ham's Cram & Scram" from May 14-24. The project is designed to reduce the College's end-of-year waste by recycling and reusing items that would typically be thrown out at the end of the academic year.

This year's class gift has reached record levels, exceeding $50,000 in contributions from seniors, parents and trustees. Senior participation in the class gift is nearing 93 percent, making this the 15th year that the senior class gift has exceeded 90 percent participation.
