  • Marie Piayai, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton College, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Thailand. Piayai is a world politics major at Hamilton.

  • Sander Doucette '09 was interviewed regarding his Sylvan Beach research for a Syracuse Post-Standard column titled "Oneida Lake Life."  An economics major, Doucette is conducting a survey of Sylvan Beach's plan to restore its beach. According to the article, "The village's namesake beach has eroded more than 100 feet in the past century. Village officials have won state approval to haul sand dredged from the Erie Canal and spread it out on the beach."

  • Michael Ondaatje, award-winning author of The English Patient and Divisadero, will present the Winton J. Tolles Lecture at Hamilton College on Thursday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel. It is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception and book-signing in Dwight Lounge, Bristol Campus Center.

  • Jay Williams '54, the Walcott-Bartlett Professor of Religion, gave a gallery talk at the Barrett Gallery at Utica College in connection with his exhibit there on April 1. The exhibit features 19th century wood engravings by such notables as Alfred Waud, Thomas Nast, Sol Eytinge, Winslow Homer and Frederick Remington. The gallery is named after Edith Barrett, the wife of Edwin Barrettt, a long-standing professor of English at Hamilton.

  • Joyce M. Barry, visiting assistant professor of women's studies, presented her paper "Remembering the Past, Working for the Future: West Virginia Women fight for Economic Justice and Environmental Heritage in the Age of Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining" at the 32nd annual Appalachian Studies Association Conference on March 27-29.

  • Hamilton College scored six straight goals in the third quarter and the Continentals pulled away for an 11-3 Liberty League win against visiting Vassar College in wintry conditions at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 4.
