Professor of English Doran Larson's essay, "Toward a Prison Poetics," appears in the current edition of College Literature (Summer, 2010). The essay is based on Larson's research in global prison writing; it proposes that prison writing presents a genre united not only by comparable contexts and author experience, but by recurrent formal tropes.

Professor of English and Creative Writing Doran Larson published an essay “Writing Behind the Wall” in The Chronicle of Higher Education (8/1/10). The piece details Larson’s experiences in teaching creative writing at a maximum security prison and the related class he teaches at Hamilton, “20th Century American Prison Writing.”

Six members of the Hamilton College faculty have been promoted to the rank of professor. Associate professors Debra Boutin, mathematics; Naomi Guttman, English; Shoshana Keller, history; Doran Larson, English; Herm Lehman biology; and Gary Wyckoff, government, were promoted, effective July 1.

Associate Professor of English Doran Larson spoke on a panel titled, "Where We Teach and Learn Now," on teaching outside the academy, at the 2008 Modern Language Association Convention in San Francisco in December. In addition, Larson's short story, "Cha Cha," published in the summer 2008 issue of New Madrid, has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
