Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Abhishek Amar recently presented a paper titled “Heritage and History-Making in Gaya Region” at the Heritage in Context: Balancing the Global with the Local conference in New Delhi, India. He also published an article in an edited volume titled Bodhgaya: Impressions within and Beyond.

With the Syrian refugee crisis ever-present in the news and issues of immigration taking center stage in the current presidential election, questions surrounding religious diversity and inclusivity have rarely been as important in global politics as they are today. It is against this historic backdrop that Shannon Boley ’17 was able to take her past research on religious pluralism from Upstate New York all the way to Rome, Italy, as one of this summer’s 18 Emerson Grant recipients.

Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn recently published an article in Journal of the Southwest. In “O’odham Songscapes: Journeys to Magdalena Remembered in Song,” he examines O’odham songs mapping indigenous pilgrimage routes from the Tohono O’odham Nation in southern Arizona to Magdalena in Sonora, Mexico.

Lillia McEnaney ’17 and Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn presented at the European Association for the Study of Religion (EASR) Conference. The meeting was held June 28 - July 1 at the University of Helsinki.

President Joan Hinde Stewart recently announced the appointment of eight Hamilton faculty members to endowed chairs.  Doug Ambrose (history),  Brian Collett (physics), Martine Guyot-Bender (French), Gordon Jones (physics), Tim Kelly (mathematics), Heidi Ravven (religious studies), Patrick Reynolds (biology) and Michael “Doc” Woods (music) received appointments. All are effective July 1.

A review of “Bosch: The 5th Centenary Exhibition” by Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate was published by Religion News Service (RNS) on June 9. The exhibition marking the 500th anniversary of the death of painter Hieronymus Bosch opened recently at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.

Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate recently gave presentations at several venues in Europe. He discussed interreligious relations in Spain and then traveled to Sweden and Germany to discuss sacred scriptures and texts.
