Charlotte Carstens ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. Carstens, a German studies and world politics major, studied in Tübingen, Germany, during her junior year.

Eunice Lee ’16 has been awarded a 2016-17 Fulbright U.S. student grant to the European Union (EU).  She will research the EU’s food quality policy and how origin and quality regulations affect small farming communities. Lee is an environmental studies and French major and will be based at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research in Toulouse, France, throughout her research. She studied in France during her junior year.

Student organization Global Outreach Hamilton, a part of the Community Outreach and Opportunity Project (COOP), took nine students and two faculty members to the Caribbean island of Nevis to work with the St. Kitts- and Nevis-based non-profit organization Operation Future during the second week of spring break. Emily Rubinstein '16, one of the trip's organizers, shares this reflection.

Justin Long ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Thailand. Long, a linguistics interdisciplinary studies major, studied in Ecuador during his junior year.

Evelyn Torsher ’17 has been awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Arabic in Amman, Jordan.  She also received a CLS in 2015 and studied in Morocco.

Hamilton’s Spring 2016 Program in Washington group visited the White House’s Executive Office Building on March 2 for a meet and greet with alumni on President Obama’s staff, ahead of the group’s upcoming West Wing tours scheduled from March 7 to 11.

Students on the Hamilton Program in New York City explored contrasting lifestyles  of the early 1900s when they  recently visited the Museum of the City of New York and the J.P. Morgan Library and Museum.

Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain (HCAYS) students visited the island of Mallorca on Feb. 19-21. The island has become known in recent years as a prominent tourist destination, though human history on the island goes back as far as the Paleolithic period (6000 to 4000 B.C.).

Very few study abroad experiences offer a chance to be truly independent. While some may allow their students to pursue directed research projects, they are often within bounds predetermined by the program. However, during the first semester of Hamilton’s Adirondack Program during the fall of 2015, students not only had a chance to be independent in their academic pursuits, but they were also able to explore areas of interest outside of their comfort zone by way of internships.
