Three students in Professor of English and Creative Writing Doran Larson’s “Booked: Prison Writing” course this fall held a campus book drive to benefit prisoners at a New York State correctional facility.

Six members of the Hamilton College men's soccer team will travel to Guatemala during winter break in January 2015 through the Guatemala Healing Hands Foundation (GHHF).

For the third year, Hamilton students taught Spanish to children in grades K-5 at Clinton Elementary School. The students taught multiple groups of approximately 25 Clinton children during lunch and recess this semester. Teaching Fellow in Hispanic Studies María Gabriela Portal, Elisa MacColl ’16, and Emily Hess ’16 coordinated the project.

More than 160 students geared up for some fierce competition on Nov. 15 as Hamilton Association for Volunteering Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) hosted its 13th Annual Dodgeball Tournament. The event raised more than $775 for Hamilton’s first Team IMPACT player, Sophia Johnson.

A College in Prison program at the Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, N.Y., initiated by Hamilton College Professor of English and Creative Writing Doran Larson, and sponsored by Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC), has been honored with the James C. Hall Exemplary Credit Program Award by the Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY).

Members of the women’s tennis team volunteered at the Rome Humane Society on Oct. 25 and Nov. 5. Team members dried scoopers, folded towels, brushed and pet cats, and walked dogs.  Women’ s tennis is one of many Hamilton varsity sports that engage in community service activities. The men's cross country team recently volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore secondhand shop, and the women's soccer team participates each year in the Great American Heart Run and Walk.

Students in the Hamilton Program in New York City continued a tradition with a recent visit to the Bowery Mission, where they spent the afternoon volunteering in the kitchen.

Hamilton’s Sidekicks Program celebrated its third year anniversary on Oct. 21 with its Welcome Pizza Party. This year, 55 Hamilton College students were matched with 55 Clinton Elementary School students, ranging from first to sixth grade. With 18 pizzas and 10 bottles of soda on hand, students anticipated an enjoyable evening.

Hamilton women’s ice hockey, men’s ice hockey and men’s basketball team members were among participants in this year’s AK5K run and walk on Oct.12 in New Hartford, N.Y.  Representing the Hamilton community were 56 students, three parents and a sibling who participated with 900 runners and walkers, with 200 volunteers and about 500 spectators cheering them on.

The Hamilton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams did some volunteer work with Oneida County Habitat for Humanity in nearby Marcy on Sept. 27.
