Hamilton College received an award for the highest average contribution among all colleges from the 2015 America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk.  Held this past March in Utica, The Heart Run & Walk is an annual fund raising event for the American Heart Association, and every year many Hamilton students and employees participate.

The Hamilton College Community Farm Garden is moving into its eighth year this fall, but even during the summertime students and staff are busy tending to the ¾ acre plot. The farm was founded in 2007 with the intent to “create a forum where knowledge of food and agriculture is intentionally cultivated to strengthen the relationship between the Hamilton Community and the land that supports (it).”

Students and staff completed the first leg of this year’s Cram and Scram efforts on May 29, culminating in the storage or donation of thousands of items that would have otherwise found themselves discarded.

The Hamilton College women's basketball team recently received a certificate of recognition from the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care as a 2015 Older American Awards Honoree.

Hillary Joy Pitoniak, greenhouse and invertebrate care technician, was presented with a service award on May 8 by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) for her work with the Utica Community Gardens. Pitoniak has represented Hamilton on the Utica Community Gardens committee since its founding in 2012.

Three sophomores inspired by Hamilton’s annual Cram & Scram reused furniture and goods sale have taken clothing shopping on campus to a new level with their pop-up Thrift Shop, open today outside Sadove Student Center.  Mary Langworthy, Audrey Love and Sara Purinton are operating a recycled clothing shop with items donated and now purchased by students, faculty and staff. In just three hours the trio has taken in more than $300 which will be turned over to benefit the Nepal relief efforts through an organization that their classmate Nepal native Sharif Shrestha started.

For its last meeting of the semester, Philanthropy Committee invited the scholars of the Clinton A Better Chance (ABC) Program to the weekly Student Assembly meeting in honor of the committee’s recent donation of $1000 to the ABC organization. Four of the six scholars of Clinton ABC attended to speak about what the organization provides for these students.

The Hamilton Men's Hockey team continued their tradition of volunteering through their involvement in the Daniel Highland Barden Mudfest in Deansboro, N.Y.  for the third year.  The Mudfest, held this year on April 25, was created by Deansboro natives after the Sandy Hook massacre in December 2012. 

A routine meeting about a school visit to the Wellin Museum between representatives of the museum and a Clinton Middle School art teacher has led to a rewarding collaboration for both Hamilton College students and Clinton middle schoolers.

The first week of Hamilton’s spring break is over and the first five Alternative Spring Break trips have returned. A new trip this year went to Philadelphia where students worked with the Urban Tree Connection and with the Nationalities Service Center.
