  • Winter Outing Club trips are an entirely different beast than any other time of year. With the blankets of snow covering the ground come a set of issues that uniquely challenge leaders. Andrew Jillings, director of Outdoor Leadership, and eight students embarked early on Jan. 27 for a weekend-long training session that would equip them to address these challenges. Jared Mandelbaum ’18, Jack Gumina ’19, Sarah Stigberg ’20, James Southwick ’20, Keith Ruggles ’20, Mike Moubarak ’21, Sean Conroy ’21, and Hans Wydler ’21 joined Jillings for the enriching experience.

  • Learning For Your Spirit Week, a series of events designed to introduce members of the Hamilton community to new spiritual practices or unfamiliar religious traditions, took place Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.

  • Over the past two weekends (Jan. 20-21 and 27-28) Hamilton’s two mock trial teams have traveled near and far to compete against the best programs in the country. These two tournaments, held at Georgetown and Cornell, respectively, were the teams’ final opportunities to get hands-on practice before the “March Madness” style tournaments begin in February.

  • For the first time in campus history, the Shenandoah-Kirkland Initiative brought traditional dancers and artists from the Oneida Nation to perform at Hamilton College.

  • The Outing Club punctuated the first weekend of the new semester with a trip to Snowy Mountain on Jan. 20. A group of 15 stood tall against the unforgiving temperature and embraced the brisk mountain air. The summit, 3,898 feet, is the highest in Hamilton County and boasts a fire tower. A winter hike gives brave adventurers a unique chance to get spectacular views from the summit floor, eliminating the need of climbing the tower.

  • HAVOC’s 20th Annual MLK Jr. Day of Service saw the largest turnout yet with just under 250 people coming out early on Jan. 20 to volunteer in Clinton, New Hartford, Utica, and Rome. HAVOC sent students to 28 sites ranging from organizational work for a city mural to spending time with the elderly to playing with kittens.

  • The Hamilton College Buffers traveled to New York City to sing at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, Dec. 17, to open the 5 p.m. performance of the tremendously popular Christmas Spectacular, starring the Radio City Rockettes.

  • The Outing Club began the semester with a flurry of activity from by engaged leaders and eager participants. The activity did not let up as the leaves began to change and the semester lumbered on. There were canoeing competitions, rock climbing competitions and trips, overnights, and day trips along with two leader training weekends led by experienced officers of the Outing Club.

  • More than 20 student members of BLSU recently participated in the first-ever BLSU Day of Service, organized by the COOP as a collaborative effort between the two organizations. Half of the service group volunteered at the Veteran's Outreach Center and the other half at the Rescue Mission, both nonprofit organizations in the local Utica community.

  • Last weekend (Nov. 4-6) Hamilton Mock Trial debuted its two teams and six of seven new members at Haverford College’s “Black Squirrel Invitational.”
