  • On April 20 the students in the New York Program had dinner and spent the evening with Kwame Anthony Appiah, the Laurence S. Rockefeller University Professor in the Department of Philosophy and the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University.

  • Students in the NYC Program visited the Guggenheim Museum where they were given a tour by a docent on March 31. The main exhibit, "Haunted," examines the ghostly nature of reproductions in recent art: photography, film and video. The group was pleased to discover six photographs in the exhibit by Spencer Finch ’85. The pieces are titled "42 Minutes (After Kawabata)." He also has an installation on the High Line Walkway titled "The River that Flows Both Ways."

  • Students participating in the NYC program enjoyed a performance of Puccini’s La Boheme at the Metropolitan Opera House in Manhattan on Feb. 20. This was the first experience at the opera for many students in the program and they were captivated by the storyline, the beauty of the music, and the grandeur of the sets.

  • On February 24,  students of the New York City Program visited the Whitney Museum of American Art. The students, together with Professor Rick Werner, received a comprehensive tour of the Collecting Biennials exhibition on the museum’s fifth floor.

  • On February 11, Hamilton alumnus George Mack ’92, a managing director at Barclay’s Capital graciously made himself available for students in the New York City Program. The class was curious as to the origins of the great recession.

  • Hamilton’s students in the Program in New York City attended a performance of the comedic opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia, or The Barber of Seville, at the Metropolitan Opera on Nov. 4.

  • Students in Hamilton's Program in New York City visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Oct. 21. This semester's NYC program theme is International Political Economy. The program is directed by Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs.

  • Hamilton students in the New York City Program started off their semester with a tour of Wall Street. Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs, is director of this semester’s program, International Political Economy.

  • Students in Hamilton's Program in New York in April attended a performance of the New York Philharmonic. They heard Chinese pianist Lang Lang perform the world premiere of Tan Dun's "Piano Concerto" and Stravinsky's "The Firebird." The New York Philharmonic performance was one of several cultural activities sponsored by Kevin '70 and Karen Kennedy for the students participating in the Program in New York.

  • Students in the New York City Program recently visited the United Nations where they had a tour and lunch in the delegates lounge as part of a final student project/presentation. Students in the program this semester are Marketa Crandle '10, Nick Eugenio '09, Sofia Guerron '10, Gillian Hawley '09, Robin Joseph '09, Harry Jung '10, Meredith Kennedy '09, Carlyle McWilliams '09, Sarah Moore '09, Ed Odre '09, Travis Talmadge '09, Rita Tran '09, Lyndra Vassar '09 and Xiaolu Xu '10. Vivyan C. Adair, the Elihu Root Peace Fund Professor of Women's Studies, is director of this semester's program, Globalization: The City as Text.
