Hamilton alumni, students, and colleagues send well-wishes and thanks to five members of the faculty who entered the world of retirement at the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year. We asked them to reflect on their time on College Hill and what’s next.

Hamilton College has been awarded a five-year $3,159,044 grant from the New York State Department of Education to support its Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). It is the largest HEOP grant the College has ever received.

On-again, off-again rain showers couldn’t put a damper on the bright spirits, as Hamilton alumni gathered for a memorable Reunion Weekend, June 6–9. More than 1,000 alumni, family, and friends returned to the Hill for reminiscing, traditions, and events galore.

An enhanced village green, a renovated community arts facility, additional local housing options, and year-round Clinton Cider Mill donut availability are among several improvements and additions planned for the Village of Clinton and Town of Kirkland thanks to a recent $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant from New York State.

National and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, alumni, and students for their expertise and perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus. May’s news topics included varied subjects from twin co-valedictorians to communism to the consumer price index.

As David Wippman prepares to retire and leave his office in Buttrick Hall this June, he sat down once again with Debraggio to reflect on his time at the College.

Maurice Isserman, the Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History, wrote an essay titled "I spent years studying American communism. Here’s what I learned" for The Guardian published on May 16. Reflecting on “why so many intelligent and admirable people remained so loyal for so long to a fundamentally flawed movement,” Isserman delved into the paradoxical nature of American communism.

The Hamilton College Town-Gown Fund recently made grants totaling $109,600 to nine non-profit and public safety organizations serving the Town of Kirkland and the Village of Clinton.

In a letter to the editor titled “What’s in a mane? Everything, if it honors treason and slavery” in The Washington Post, Visiting Professor of History Ty Seidule emphasized that “Whom we honor reflects our values.”

In its final meeting of the 2023-24 academic year in May, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 22 members of the Class of 2024. They join the 27 other members of the class who were elected in October and February.
