Glynis Asu, Lisa Forrest and Tanapat (Ice) Treyanurak ’17 discussed the LITS Peer Research Tutor program during a conference on “The Art of Librarianship” presented last month by the SUNY Librarians Association.

Greenhouse and Invertebrate Care Technician Hillary Joy Pitoniak presented “Herbs for Health: Moving Beyond the Supplement” on June 20 at the Oneida County master gardeners’ 19th annual Herb and Flower Festival.

An interview with Shaker collector Stephen Miller in Antiques & the Arts Weekly included references to  Hamilton’s Director and Curator of Special Collections and Archives Christian Goodwillie and the Burke Library’s Communal Societies Special Collection. 

Hamilton College received an award for the highest average contribution among all colleges from the 2015 America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk.  Held this past March in Utica, The Heart Run & Walk is an annual fund raising event for the American Heart Association, and every year many Hamilton students and employees participate.

The Hamilton College Community Farm Garden is moving into its eighth year this fall, but even during the summertime students and staff are busy tending to the ¾ acre plot. The farm was founded in 2007 with the intent to “create a forum where knowledge of food and agriculture is intentionally cultivated to strengthen the relationship between the Hamilton Community and the land that supports (it).”

Students and staff completed the first leg of this year’s Cram and Scram efforts on May 29, culminating in the storage or donation of thousands of items that would have otherwise found themselves discarded.

The winners of the Beverly S. and Eugene M. Tobin Employee Awards were announced and employees celebrating milestone service anniversaries were honored at Hamilton’s 31st annual employee service recognition luncheon on May 18 on Dunham Green.

The Chronicle of Higher Education, in an article titled “At Hamilton College, Top Administrators Were Themselves First-Generation Students,” (article pasted below) highlighted the college’s focus on expanding access and equalizing experiences on campus.  The May 18 story reported on the challenges first-generation students face and how Hamilton’s programs, including First-Year-Forward, SEAS and the universal orientation program (beginning this August), address them.

Hillary Joy Pitoniak, greenhouse and invertebrate care technician, was presented with a service award on May 8 by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) for her work with the Utica Community Gardens. Pitoniak has represented Hamilton on the Utica Community Gardens committee since its founding in 2012.
