The photo, part of a rotating series, shows Barbara Tewksbury, the Upson Chair for Public Discourse and professor of geosciences, and Claire Sayler ’12 doing fieldwork in Egypt.

“Gender, experimenter gender and medium of report influence the content of autobiographical memory report, an article co-authored by Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology Azriel Grysman and Amelia Denney ’17 was recently published in the journal Memory.

A paper co-authored by Assistant Professor of Biology Cynthia Downs was recently published by The American Naturalist. “Speeding up growth: selection for mass-independent maximal metabolic rate alters growth rates” describes the results of the authors’ study of the relationship of metabolic rates to pace-of-life.

Sally Cockburn, professor of mathematics, presented her paper, "Preimages of Small Geometric Cycles," at the Combinatorics and Optimization Seminar at the University of Ottawa on Jan. 29. This work is part of her ongoing research into measuring the complexity of straight-line representations of networks, in terms their vertex adjacency and edge crossing structures.

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens recently announced the appointment of John McEnroe as Elizabeth A. Whitehead Visiting Professor for the 2016-17 academic year. McEnroe is the John and Anne Fischer Professor of Fine Arts at Hamilton.

Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin gave a research presentation "Symmetry Parameters for the Lexicographic Product" at the 2016 Joint Mathematics Meeting in Seattle, Wash.

Marianne Janack, professor of philosophy, presented papers at two different sessions at the recent American Philosophical Association meetings. She presented a paper titled “Rorty’s Sellars” about Richard Rorty’s uses of the figure of American philosopher Wilfrid Sellars, and she gave a talk titled “Richard Rorty, Rocks, and Realism,” in which she discussed Rorty's criticism of physicist Steve Weinberg.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Literature and Creative Writing Andrew Rippeon presented a paper at the Modern Language Association Annual Convention, January 7-10, in Austin, Texas. Rippeon’s paper, “‘Well, it was a few lines 15 minutes ago’: Larry Eigner, Jonathan Williams, and Epistolary Post-Projectivism,” was part of a panel on letter-writing in post-1945 American poetry.

Simon Coppard, visiting assistant professor of biology, presented a talk on Jan. 5 at The Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology annual meeting in Portland, Ore. His talk was titled “Patterns of expression and evolution of cryptochrome and timeless genes involved in lunar spawning: Temporal prezygotic isolation among sympatric species of the pantropical sea urchin Diadema.”

Professor of Mathematics Sally Cockburn gave a talk titled ‘A Senior Seminar in Set Theory as a Springboard for Mathematical Philosophy’ on Jan. 6 at the Joint Mathematical Meetings held in Seattle.
