  • Hamilton College welcomed 3rd grade students from Oneida’s Seneca Street Elementary School to the Taylor Science Center on June 3 for a number of educational presentations on psychology, biology, physics and chemistry.

  • The Hamilton College Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, initiated six members of the Class of 2015 to associate membership on May 22 before the annual dinner in Taylor Science Center Atrium. Family members in attendance enjoyed a program of observations by mentors about the students, their research and student plans to continue in research.

  • Six outstanding Hamilton women scientists have been named Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Research Scholars for the upcoming summer.  The awardees this year are Alex Betrus ’18, Katherine Fuzesi ’17, Vi Pham ’18, Linnea Sahlberg ’17, Isabella Schoning ’16, and Emily Sears ’17.

  • The Hamilton College Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, elected seven members of the Class of 2015 to associate membership on May 5. The students are: Nikole Bonacorsi, Deanna Cho, Hannah Ellerbrock, Maxwell Lopez, Christiana Westlin, Kassandra Zaila and Hannah Zucker.

  • Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten attended the Scialog conference “Molecules Come to Life” at Biosphere 2 near Tucson, Az., March 12-15. Scialog was a multi-disciplinary gathering of physicists, chemists and biologists sponsored by Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

  • Madison Beres ’15 presented a poster titled “An Educational Booklet on the New York State Fossil Eurypterus remipes” at the 50th annual meeting of the Geological Society of America - Northeastern Section.  The work Beres presented in the Geoscience Education session was based on her senior thesis with Professor of Geosciences Cynthia Domack.

  • Ernest Williams, the William R. Kenan Professor of Biology emeritus, presented “Monarch Butterflies: An Endangered Migration” on April 16 at the Discovery Center of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. The talk was part of the center’s Science Lecture Series.

  • Alexandra Kontra ’15 presented a poster titled “Coastal Protection in Avalon, New Jersey: Hard and Soft Structuring from 2005 to 2014” at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America - Northeastern Section.   The work Kontra presented in the Marine/Coastal Science session was based on her senior thesis with Professor of Geosciences Cynthia Domack.

  • Felipe A. Ramirez ’15 presented a poster titled “Paleohydrologic Evolution of Lake Systems in the Washakie and Piceance Basins, Wyoming and Colorado” at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America – Northeastern Section.
