A memorial service for James L. Ferguson Professor of Psychology Jonathan Vaughan will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m., in the Hamilton College Chapel.

Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology Daniel Chambliss, James S. Sherman Professor of Government Philip Klinkner and Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology Azriel Grysman were highlighted in national publications during the week of Sept. 15.  Chambliss penned an opinion piece for The Chronicle of Higher Education. Klinkner’s remarks appeared on Talking Points Memo (TPM), a major political news website, and Grysman was quoted  in Science of Us, a website within the New York Magazine site.  

Douglas Weldon, the Stone Professor of Psychology, was recently elected to fellow status in the American Psychological Association (APA).

In an email to the Hamilton community on Sept. 15, President Joan Stewart announced the death of James L. Ferguson Professor of Psychology Jonathan Vaughan. He died on Sunday, Sept. 14, from complications of pneumonia.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology Kara Sage was recently invited to join the editorial board of Current Psychology. As per the journal website, "Current Psychology stands as an international forum for rapid dissemination of information and research results at the cutting edge of psychology.

In modern day America, it’s sometimes said that racism no longer exists. Three decades after the Civil Rights Movement, our country elected its first black president, seemingly validating this view. However, John Dovidio, the Carl Iver Hovland Professor of Psychology and the Dean of Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Yale University, disagrees.

Assistant Professor of Psychology José M. Causadias was recently invited to join the board of review editors at Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology. The journal is published quarterly by the American Psychological Association (APA) and focuses on the science of culture, race and ethnicity.

John Dovidio, the Carl Iver Hovland Professor of Psychology at Yale University, will present a lecture titled “The Subtlety of Contemporary Racism:  Implications for Intergroup Perceptions, Interaction, and Policy” on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 4:15 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Jonathan Vaughan, the James L. Ferguson Professor of Psychology, co-authored a revised computer programming text for behavioral scientists titled MATLAB for Behavioral Scientists, Second Edition. The book, written with David Rosenbaum and Brad Wyble of Penn State University, was recently published by Taylor & Paul/Routledge.
