  • Jennifer L. Thompson ’11 and Heather D. Parker ’11 presented posters at the Northeastern/North-Central Geological Society of America Joint Section Meeting held in Pittsburgh on March 22. Both were in the Geologic Education session of the conference.

  • Nine Hamilton students spent a week of spring break volunteering with the humanitarian aid organization No More Deaths in Tucson. Students making the trip were Kerry Coughlin ’11, Ilse Zoerb ’11, Sam Doyon ’12, Connor Brown ’12, Ephraim McDowell ’12, Elizabeth Costello ’13, Grace Lee ’13, Chip Sinton ’13 and Barsha Baral ’13.

  • Reading is an essential skill that most experts agree is developed at a very early stage in a child’s education. Yet not all students acquire this vital skill at the same rate, and many need extra help to become fluid readers. To aid some of these students, Hamilton recently began a new community outreach program at Kernan Elementary School in Utica to help second-graders  improve their reading abilities.

  • Sophomore Galia Slayen was featured on The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Say Something website, described by the publication as a collection of “stories from college students about what they’re up to and why.” In the March 7 story and linked audio recording, Slayen described the recent National Eating Disorder Awareness Week activities on campus and her motivation for engaging in the project. A committee of students, headed by Slayen and Perry Ryan ’12 provided the impetus for Hamilton’s participation in the national awareness week.

  • Hamilton College will participate in the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW) from Feb. 21 through Feb. 25. The NEDAW was created to “prevent eating disorders and body image issues while reducing the stigma surrounding eating disorders and improving access to treatment.” Events will take place around campus all week and are free and open to the public.

  • Ten Hamilton students participated in the McGill Model United Nations Conference (MCMUN) Jan. 27-31 in Montréal. The conference drew more than 50 schools from the United States, Canada and Europe and approximately 1,400 delegates.

  • Nine Hamilton College students have been selected as recipients of the Class of 1979 Student Travel Award. The award, established by the alumni of Hamilton's Class of 1979, offers financial assistance to certain outstanding Hamilton students who wish to pursue extensive research projects in different parts of the world.

  • Nine Hamilton students have received grants from the Steven Daniel Smallen Memorial Fund. The Fund aims to encourage student creativity among Hamilton students by providing funds for projects displaying originality, expressiveness and imagination.

  • Hamilton students have the opportunity to establish meaningful relationships with local nonprofit organizations beginning in their first semester of college through a pilot program operated by the Hamilton Community Opportunity and Outreach Project (COOP).
