  • Twenty-two Hamilton students taught Spanish to Clinton Elementary School students this past semester. The program began on Oct. 3 and ended on Dec. 2. The Hamilton students attended a training workshop prior to the program to learn about different teaching strategies and develop ideas for activities.

  • Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Xavier Tubau presented at a workshop on the “Literature, Politics and the Public Sphere in the Early Modern Mediterranean” at Syracuse University on Nov. 11.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Luisa Briones-Manzano recently presented a paper at the 18th International Congress of Literature and Hispanic Studies. The conference, sponsored by Lock Haven University, was held in the Basque city of San Sebastián, Spain.

  • Recent graduate Nelly Alba '16 is continuing her passion for education by joining Teach for America.

  • What do you do when you’re reading and come upon an unfamiliar term? Most people will look it up and move on; Ian Baize ’18 took it a step further and turned his search on “positivism” into an Emerson summer research project. His advisor on the project is Professor of History Al Kelly.

  • Gretchen Gardner ’09 currently lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she runs her own communications strategy firm, GMG Strategic Communications. According to Portada, Gardner “works with Argentine and international ventures on shaping their content, branding and marketing strategies to position them for success in global markets.”

  • During the spring semester, 27 Hamilton students taught Spanish to students at Clinton Elementary School. The Hamilton students participated in a training workshop in order to learn about teaching methods and to discuss lesson plans. The program began in February and continued through the end of the semester.

  • Students in the Hispanic Studies Latin American film course (HSPT 323/423) recently visited the George Eastman Museum, in Rochester, N.Y., home to an important celluloid film collection. They viewed key works in the George Eastman archives and toured climate-controlled celluloid vaults.
