Janet Simons and Angel Nieves, co-directors of the Digital Humanities Initiative at Hamilton, and Hena Ahmad and Patricia O'Neill, professors of English at Truman University and Hamilton College respectively, attended the 10th annual Summer Institute in Digital Humanities at the University of Victoria in British Columbia June 4-11. More than 100 librarians, faculty and graduate students attended this year's institute representing an impressive array of scholarly work in digital humanities.

Edgy, scary, stylish, sinful: gay culture is viewed in different ways by different communities in the United States. But for black men in the LGBTQQI community, their doubly marginalized status creates tensions in all of the communities to which they belong. Working with Associate Professor of Africana Studies Angel Nieves, Randall Mason ’11 is using his Emerson grant to investigate the lives of black gay men.

Hamilton College's highest awards for teaching were presented on May 7 to three faculty members. Douglas Weldon, the Stone Professor of Psychology and director of the Neuroscience Program, was awarded the Samuel & Helen Lang Prize for Excellence in Teaching; Assistant Professor of Chemistry Nicole Snyder received the Class of 1963 Excellence in Teaching Award; and Associate Professor of Africana Studies Angel David Nieves was honored with the John R. Hatch Excellence in Teaching Award.
